About This Marrakech Medina Walking Tour
This Marrakech walking tour is the easiest way to understand the old city, not just see it. Your guide, Mohamed, was born in Morocco to an Amazigh family and is licensed by the Ministry of Tourism. Along the way he talks about everything that makes Marrakech what it is: its languages, its people, how the souks and the local economy work, and the traditions of daily life.
We meet in front of the Koutoubia Mosque, the city’s most famous landmark, then walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa to hear the history of the square that has been the heart of Marrakech for centuries. From there we leave the main roads for the medina’s narrow streets, where locals live, work and shop.
Then come the souks, each one organised by trade. You’ll see leather, lanterns and lights, babouche slippers, metalwork and the olive market. We stop at a traditional herbalist to drink mint tea and discover Moroccan spices, herbs and oils, and pass the famous mechoui stall of Chef Lamine Hadj Mustapha. The tour ends back on Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
Small groups, easy pace, and a local who answers every question: perfect for first-time visitors, couples and families.
