About This Marrakech Souk Shopping Tour
The souks of Marrakech are one of the best shopping places in the world, and one of the most confusing. Hundreds of narrow lanes, thousands of shops, and no price tags. This souk tour shows you how it really works, so you can shop with confidence and enjoy it.
Each souk in Marrakech is organised by trade, so we walk from one market to the next: leather workers, lantern makers, metalworkers, spice sellers, babouche makers and carpet traders. I explain how each craft is made, how to tell good quality from cheap copies, and what locals actually pay.
You’ll also learn the art of haggling, Moroccan style: how to start, when to walk away, and how to do it with a smile. You buy only what you want, from whoever you want. My job is to help you shop like a local, not to sell you anything.
The Souks We Visit
- Souk Semmarine: the main street into the souks, with textiles, clothes and souvenirs
- Rahba Kedima (spice square): spices, herbs, argan oil and traditional cosmetics
- Souk Cherratine: leather bags, belts and jackets
- Souk Smata: babouches, the colourful Moroccan slippers
- Souk Haddadine: metalworkers hammering lanterns and lamps
- Souk des Teinturiers (dyers’ souk): skeins of dyed wool drying above the lane
- Criée Berbère (carpet souk): Berber rugs and kilims
- The olive market: olives, preserved lemons and pickles

How to Haggle in the Marrakech Souks
- Ask the price, then smile. The first price is only the start of the conversation.
- Know what you’d pay. Decide your price before you start, and offer below it.
- Take your time. Mint tea and a little chat are part of the deal.
- Be ready to walk away. Often that’s when the best price appears.
- Buy for quality, not just price. I’ll show you how to check leather, stitching and materials.
